How Many Drinks Do You Get From a Bottle of Coffee Syrup?

How Many Drinks Do You Get From a Bottle of Coffee Syrup?

The quick answer

A 1-litre bottle of coffee syrup gives 100 pumps with a 10ml Monin pump, or 125 pumps with an 8ml Sweetbird or Simply pump. At the usual two pumps per drink, that is about 50 to 62 flavoured drinks per bottle. A café selling 20 flavoured drinks a day gets through roughly 10 bottles a month.

How many pumps are in a bottle of syrup?

The number of drinks depends on two things: the size of the pump fitted to the bottle and how many pumps go into each drink. Syrup brands sell their own portion pumps, and the dose differs by brand. The Monin pump for 1L bottles dispenses a 10ml shot; the Sweetbird pump dispenses 8ml. IBC Simply quotes approximately 125 shots per 1L bottle with its portion pump, which works out at the same 8ml dose.

Bottle Pump dose Pumps per bottle Drinks at 1 pump Drinks at 2 pumps Drinks at 3 pumps
Monin 1L 10ml 100 100 50 33
Monin 70cl 10ml 70 70 35 23
Monin 250ml 10ml 25 25 12 8
Sweetbird 1L 8ml 125 125 62 41
Simply 1L 8ml 125 125 62 41

Working: pumps per bottle = bottle volume ÷ pump dose (1,000ml ÷ 10ml = 100; 1,000ml ÷ 8ml = 125). Drinks per bottle = pumps ÷ pumps per drink, rounded down. Pump doses are taken from the pump product pages linked above. Pouring without a pump gives fewer, less consistent drinks.

How many pumps go in a flavoured latte?

Two pumps is the common starting point for a regular latte or hot chocolate, which is why the two-pump column above is the one to plan with. Larger cups and iced drinks usually take three; a small cup may need only one. Fix the dose per cup size, write it on the recipe card and train the team to it. Portion pumps make this easy; free-pouring makes it impossible to cost a drink accurately.

How many bottles does a café need a month?

Once the dose is fixed, stock planning is simple arithmetic. The table below assumes two pumps (20ml of Monin or 16ml of Sweetbird or Simply) per drink and a six-day trading week over a four-week month.

Flavoured drinks per day Drinks per month Syrup used (Monin, 20ml) 1L bottles per month Cases of 6
5 120 2.4 litres 3 1 case lasts about 2 months
10 240 4.8 litres 5 1 case a month
20 480 9.6 litres 10 2 cases a month
40 960 19.2 litres 20 3 to 4 cases a month

Working: drinks per month = drinks per day × 6 days × 4 weeks. Syrup used = drinks × 20ml. Bottles are rounded up to the next whole bottle. With 8ml pumps, multiply the syrup used by 0.8 before rounding.

Those bottles are spread across your flavours, which is where the planning matters. Twenty flavoured drinks a day across four flavours is five per flavour, so each bottle lasts about ten trading days. A flavour that sells once a day takes 50 trading days to finish a Monin bottle. That matters because Monin's product pages state the syrup should be consumed within three months of opening, while Simply quotes a 12-month shelf life after opening. Slow sellers suit the smaller 250ml or 70cl bottles, or a brand with the longer open life.

What does the syrup cost per drink?

Divide the bottle price by the drinks per bottle. A 1L Monin bottle at £P costs £P ÷ 50 per two-pump drink; a Sweetbird or Simply bottle at £P costs £P ÷ 62. Case prices on the trade syrup collection bring the per-bottle figure down, so run the sum on the case price rather than the single. Syrup is usually a small part of the drink cost next to the coffee and milk, and the cost-per-cup calculator puts all three together.

For the coffee in the drink, the working is the same. A 6kg case of espresso beans at 18g per double shot gives about 330 doubles, so the case below costs £124.00 ÷ 330 = roughly 38p of coffee per flavoured latte.

Which syrups should a café stock?

Start with a short core range you will sell every day, add one or two seasonal flavours, and review the till data after a month. Caramel, vanilla and hazelnut are the usual core; Monin Caramel 1L is a typical first bottle. Keep at least one sugar-free option on the menu, and fit a pump to every open bottle. Buy the core flavours by the case of six and seasonal or slow-moving flavours by the single bottle until you know they sell.

Brand choice is partly about pumps and bottles: Monin's 1L PET bottle and its 70cl bottle each take a different Monin pump, while Sweetbird and Simply use 1L plastic bottles with their own pumps. Browse the Monin trade range alongside Sweetbird and Simply, and if you are planning the wider drinks menu, our guide on how much decaf a café should stock uses the same approach.

Coffee syrup FAQs

How many pumps of syrup go in a latte?

Two pumps is the usual dose for a regular latte, with three for large or iced drinks. Fix the dose per cup size on your recipe card so every drink costs the same.

How many drinks does a 1L bottle of Monin syrup make?

A 1L bottle holds 100 pumps of 10ml, so it makes 50 drinks at two pumps or 100 drinks at one pump.

How long does coffee syrup last once opened?

It varies by brand. Monin's product pages say the syrup should be consumed within three months of opening, while Simply quotes 12 months after opening. Check the product page for the bottle you are buying.

Do sugar-free syrups give the same number of drinks?

Yes. The yield depends on the pump dose and bottle size, not the recipe, so a 1L sugar-free bottle gives the same number of pumps as the standard version.

Do I need a separate pump for every bottle?

One pump per open bottle is the practical minimum, so each flavour on the bar has its own. Pumps are brand-specific, so match the pump to the bottle.
