The grinder does more for the cup than the espresso machine does, and it is the component most often under-specified. A good machine fed by a tired grinder produces an inconsistent shot no barista can rescue.

Three broad jobs here. On-demand espresso grinders dose to the basket for cafe service. High-volume grinders take the heavier duty cycle of a busy shop or a roastery counter. Brew and filter grinders handle the coarser end for pour-over and bulk brew.

Burr size and burr type are on each listing — larger flat burrs generally run cooler and hold grind consistency longer under sustained use, which is the specification that matters if you are pulling all day.
